The Brussels media outlet BXL Positive ran a feature on me: my career change, why I chose Flagey, and the idea of a concept store where beautiful and responsible go hand in hand.

BXL Positive tells Lära's story: from the law to a shop in Flagey

BXL Positive, the outlet that tells Brussels' good news stories, published a piece on Lära Concept Store. It covers my career change, the Flagey neighbourhood, what 'ethical' really means when you choose every object by hand — and a little bit about my cat too. Here's the gist, with a link to the full article.

From law to design: a change I stand by

"I left the legal world to open my concept store… and it was the best decision of my life!" That's the line BXL Positive picked up, and it sums up the starting point rather well.

It wasn't a whim: a project thought through, drawn up, financed, then set down on Rue Lanfray. Today the shop is open, and every day looks like what I had in mind.

Why Flagey

Flagey is the beating heart of Ixelles: the ponds, the Sunday market, the terraces, a neighbourhood life that never really stops.

The article describes Lära as "a lived-in gallery" where you pop in for a candle and leave with a bottle of natural wine and a conversation. I couldn't have put it better myself.

A place where beautiful meets sustainable

Ceramics from Belgian potters, terrazzo boards, handmade candles, tableware in linen, wood and stoneware, and natural wines sourced from committed winemakers.

No anonymous mass production, no overstock: substance before volume. That's been the shop's line since day one.

Six months in

The feature also looks back at the first six months, told in a video on the shop's Facebook page.

Thank you to BXL Positive for this look at things: reading your own project written by someone else does something to you. The full article is on bxlpositive.com.
